Ok, so I have 2 PS3′s and neither of them work properly. One of them has a broken blu-ray drive, and the other one works fine, except that the HDMI port doesn’t work and it won’t play PS2 games. I’ve tried Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, but that’s all I have for PS2. It will play PS1 games, and regular DVD’s though… so I’m just confused. if anyone has any thoughts on that I’d appreciate it.
Now, on to the main problem I’m having. the broken blu-ray drive.
At first, it would load and eject discs, but it wouldn’t read them. I tried the quick solution, and took apart the blu-ray drive and cleaned the lens with some lens cleaner and a Q-tip like I saw on a youtube video, put everything back together and it still loaded and ejected discs but it still wouldn’t read… so I ordered a new laser lens, and using the directions on the progamer site, replaced it. this is where things get dicey. I don’t know what I did, but when I put it back together, it wouldn’t load discs anymore. when I took it apart, I found that one of the black plastic sliders (on the far left side of the drive) had come off it’s track. I have been struggling to get it back together properly ever since.
Here is the mis-aligned blu-ray drive

I took out the blu-ray drive from my (mostly) working PS3 and noticed a difference in the way some of the springy bits sit.
piece (A) should be all the way to the end of it’s track in the direction of the arrow. Piece (B) should not be visible from the outside and needs to rest more in the direction of the arrow.

here is a picture of the inside of the drive with pieces (A) and (B) resting in their proper locations. The trick is getting the pegs to line up into their proper place in the black sliders on the far left and right sides of the drive.

the way you can adjust the slider alignment is by removing this screw:

LIfting off the piece of the drive, and then removing the 2 screws holding the motor in place (circled in the picture) and moving the motor out of the way of the cog. This will allow you to work the mechanics of the drive manually. then you simply slide the black slider until the teeth towards the bottom of the slider align with gear in the right way (also circled in the picture)… which I don’t know… what you see pictured is not the proper alignment.
If someone could post a picture of the proper alignment of the black slider and all that jazz, I would dance a happy jig on a table top.

This would solve one of my problems with the blu-ray drive. problem 2 is that I think the control board has gone out on this drive. since I was having trouble repairing the drive I swapped out the control boards and put the working blu-ray drive into the PS3 that I was trying to fix, and it wouldn’t load discs anymore, and when I swapped the control boards back, and put the working blu-ray drive back into my mostly working PS3 it was fine again.
I know the control board is keyed to the motherboard, but I’ve seen a site selling new control boards, and was wondering how they work. if someone knows or knows a way to fix a damaged control board, I would appreciate it.

      Thanks,
Jon

well, theres a new model of lens that is supplied with 40gb consoles, the lens are diffrent in its look, and from what we’ve seen cant be replaced with kes – 400a.

anyways, our thoughts here at progamer that the new model is in fact the cure for the massive kes 400aaa lens around the market.

apperently alot of email coming in and asking for this new part, and right now its obvious that the bluray lens has a massive defect, the kes 410aca which needs to be replaced are sometimes worked no more then few hours!!!!

anyways we’ll try to put our hands on a kes 410 ps3 console and build a new guide. right now in our area the new ps3′s are still with kes 400a lens inside so if one of you guys can put some new photos and email to us, we’ll publish and credit him.

the new part kes 410 we’ll be from next month regulary in our webshop stock cycle.
Hakko soldering station ( or something similar ) – pointed to 400 C

we know that there are 2 types of d2c boards,

1st type is harder to solder on cause of nintendo covered the via’s with thick plastic,
(if we compare the via plastic to some PS2 boards)

you need to drill to get into the contact surface of the via point.

you drill with a philps screw driver , to remove the plastic.
its very dangerous and also most of the time even when you think you have covered the via contact the solder point will not hold much of time

in that case we prefer to go on the d2c legs which is the hard way.

we used also some alternative solder points provided in neoasic’s diagram.

but whole solder points should go on the 0.2mm chip legs

please short JP1 for making PAL consoles multi region.

please short JP2 for making NTSC consoles multi region.

0 , 1 pads on the d2ckey chip should be ignored.

2nd d2c motherboard is same as you see at neoasics diagram, the via points are shiny and are smiling and waiting for you to solder them to the d2c chip.
