    will the lens burn again

  • Comment by Adam

When replacing the laser, where is the anti-static point that needs to be removed? Or is there even one?

  • Comment by admin

sheldon: as far as we know the defect is from Sony which produced some bluray lens with low quality and therefore small life cycle range.

Adam: No Anti static point, you just install it and then test the console.

  • Comment by jebiga

do i have to solder something?? if yes can someone show where and how..sorry im a real noob at this…

  • Comment by admin

no solder work is needed. just view the photos and steps, watch the tray stoppers and look how they are calibrated when tray is open / closed and keep them that way so there will be no problems later on with eject / opening the tray/

  • Comment by BAKIYA

Can some one post the picture of how to replace the blu-ray laser deck

  • Comment by Trojek

And what now? Do I need to format anything or config system?

  • Comment by WillEH

In order for a change of laser can you list the symptons,
because my ps3 wont ps3 games or dvds or cd;s only the functions on the xmb work everytime i load a game the loading bubble on the top right corner just spins around
is this the cause of a worn out laser, could it be something with the harddrive or motherboard?

  • Comment by admin

jebiga – no need to solder.

bakiya – we’re eorking on it.

Trojek – no need ot format anything after replacement evrything should work properly.

WillEH – symptoms: actually same as PSP with bad lens, xmb will show the bubble that system is reading the disc but nothing will apper, the bubble will also dissapear eventually.

xmb worx like nothing bad happened.
in most (90%+) of the cases its only a worn laser and not an ic driver problem.

After installing a new lens with these instructions my blu-ray drive stopped sucking up the discs. Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Comment by Damien

I replace laser deck KEM400AAA now laser spins but icon in top right spins and then stops, nothing loads, do i need to reflash firmware if so how?

  • Comment by pstar

iv been researching the bluray problem and i have a couple questions. when i put in a disc it also shows a bubble in the top right then go’s away after a while nothing plays.. i came up with 2 reasons , either a bad lens or deck .. i want to buy a new deck that comes with a lens.. but i have seen 2 different types :
Original Sony PS3 KES-400AAA Laser lens with Deck and Original SONY PS3 KES-410ACA LASER LENS With Deck.. my question is can i identify which one i have or should get? my console is a 40 gb ps3 .. and could i try cleaning the lens, how and is there a tut for that
thanks i like the tut ..

  • Comment by hozer

If i didn’t watch the tray stoppers and notice how they are calibrated when tray is open / closed and now i can not load any disc—how do i reset them???

  • Comment by pstar

yeah i did the same thing.. if theres no disc in it and you cant load a disc you have to slide a disc in the top of the deck when its taken apart and you;ll see the way the top gears work with the disc .. i took off the magnet and held the disc in place with my finger and put the top of deck back in place.. then put magnet stablizer back on top. press eject and it should pop out like normal if not try again it took me a couple of tries and made not normal noises, it happened after i put the screws back on.. make sure every thing is put in place and all springs are where there soposed to be one spring was off on mine. close attention.. also if there was a disc in it, the front lip on the top of the deck should be open if no disc was present it should be closed .. its the censor lip so it knows theres a disc coming it..

  • Comment by pstar

and when i took my drive apart i noticed the disc did not spin at all, so i guess it a motor problem i hope.. any thoughts? i also noticed when i inspected my deck it said a model version that was KEM-400AAA . DIFFERENT FROM REPLACEMENT I HOPE THE REPLACEMENT WILL WORK . i have a KES-400AAA Laser lens with Deck coming in soon i will let you guys know how it goes.. IVE ALREADY MASTERED XBOXES NOW TO PS3. WE GOTTA SHARE INFO PEOPLE..

  • Comment by PS3boi

Im replacing th blu ray lens aswell as my p3is not reading any discs aswell.

  • Comment by Tom

The reason the disc is not spinning when you have a faulty laser is the ps3 hasnt detected a disc to spin if that makes sense all will become clear when you insert a working laser

  • Comment by pstar

I SEE SAID THE BLIND MAN.

  • Comment by Andy

I’m thrilled that this thread is so recent, as I just tried to replace my laser and motor unit yesterday, and I need some assistance… When I reassemble the PS3 and put a disc in, it takes the disc fine, but when it is in the PS3 it makes a strange grinding sound, and the disc will not eject. I noticed some pegs attached to some of the gears on the TOP part of the housing, and some threads on the BOTTOM part of the housing that look like guiders for the pegs on the top part. Do these need to be configured in a certain way before the top and bottom parts are screwed back together? Should they be left as they are according to the spring attachments?

  • Comment by Jehuty88

Really, Is it not spinning because of the Laser? I thought that usually the disc still tries to spin because its trying to get the laser to read? It would be good news if the spinning is due to the laser because i ordered a laser but have been reading that it might be the motor issue. =)

  • Comment by Andy

It was indeed the laser, not the motor. What worked in the end was replacing the little eye of the blu ray laser. WARNING: reassembling the housing of the blu ray laser/motor is a TRICKY process. I will keep checking this forum periodically for people having the same problem. I hope I can help others in the future as much as you all have helped me. I can\’t thank you all enough.

  • Comment by Jehuty88

Thats good to hear! Congrats on your success Andy. My laser is coming in tommorrow so hopefully that will fix my problem and i wont have too many issues with installing it. This thread is already great and giving me an idea of what i need to do.

  • Comment by pstar

SUCCESS PEOPLE . I SWAPPED DECKS WITH LENS AND IT WORKS NOW…

    ANDY
MAKE SURE THE GUIDERS ON THE BOTTOM ARE IDENTICAL AND AND SPRINGS ARE ATTACHED TO THEM ONE FELL OFF ON MINE. OR THE LIP SENSOR ON THE FRONT OF THE DECK IS WRONG . IF A DISC WAS IN IT THE LIP SHOULD BE OPEN , IF NO DISC WAS IN IT THE LIP SHOULD BE CLOSED ..(WHEN YOU PUT A DISC IN IT HITS THE SENSOR (LIP) SO IT KNOWS A DISC IS ENTERING)..

My ps3 lens has KES-410ACA LASER LENS, Can I replace it with KES-400AAA Laser lens?

  • Comment by admin

KES-410ACA LASER LENS will be available for sale at our webshop http://www.progamer.cc in 2 weeks.

kes 410 cant be replaced with kes400AAA laser.
    ————————————————————
infact kes-410 bluray lens are a new model that sony developed and its supplied with the newer models of PS3’s.

we’re amazed that this problem happens also with the kes 410, we thought that the newer PS3 model sony will solve the bluray lens problem, and if you report that its also torn / useless so quick its going to be a continuos problem for a long tme.

once we get the kes 410 lens and the newer ps3 model we’ll post a new guide.

  • Comment by Jehuty88

ok. while repairing my laser something bad happened.the spiraling red and black wire that runs from the sensor i think? to the control board. The red one broke or got pulled off. I was wondering if anyone had maybe an extra i could buy off of them for a couple of bucks? Please email me at azhang03@gmail.com. Thanks

  • Comment by kratos1211

What is the difference of KES-410ACA and KEM-410ACA laser lens? Are they the same?

  • Comment by ZeroDegre

    @Andy & pstar

    Hi guys,
I just changed my laser, and got the same problem, disk load fine, but strange sound coming, and can’t eject the disk.

I’m checking everything, but can’t find the problem…
    Anyone to help me please?

(Can you make a ‘clear for 3 years old’ since I’m french and I might not get all the vocabulary you use :p)

    Thanks a lot

  • Comment by ZeroDegre

    EDIT
    Ok I made it :)

I don’t really know what happened but here is my conclusions.

I ordered on eBay a brand new KES 400AAA (Lens + tray (motor included)
When I installed it, it wasn’t working (awfull sound + can’t eject disk)

I checked 3 times how I put everything together, compare with photos & videos from the web, everything was perfect…

I decided to put back the old one, and it was fine (no sound, eject OK, just can’t read game)
So I decided JUST to remplace the lens, and it work as a charm :)

    Thanks for the tutorial !

  • Comment by Number99

I’m wondering why would Sony replace PS3’s if all it needs to fix the disc read problem is a 20 min lens replacement procedure.
I have a 60Gb US PS3, it stopped reading Blu-Ray games & movies on April, I kept getting the 80010514 error whenever I tried to play Blu-ray discs.
A month later it stopped reading all kinds of discs. (Ps2,PS1, DVDs & Audio cds)
I want to know if any of you guys have had the same problem & if replacing the lens with the KEM-400AAA or KES-400AAA has helped?

  • Comment by pstar

good job zeroderge.. now lets work on the 3 beeps of death.. i think its just a bad power supply..

  • Comment by pstar

hey number99 is because they make money off repairs$$$ they charge 150 when the part probly cost them 5 bucks.. they know what they put in there consoles.

  • Comment by Eric

Hey, I am having the same problem, but my PS3 just won\’t play Blu-Ray. It\’ll play PS games, DVD\’s, CD\’s, but PS3 games and Blu-Ray Movies are a no-go. I\’m guessing it is just the laser, but I want to make sure before I spend 50-100 bucks.

  • Comment by Matt

I’ve replaced the lens on two PS3’s and initially both worked fine. Now (2 weeks later) one of the ps3’s will play DVD’s but Blu-ray and PS2 discs give me the error 80010007. Has anyone else experienced this? Could error 80010007 be related to a bad laser? Perhaps the lens I replaced with was also faulty?

Any ideas or clarity into what this error is?

  • Comment by RSX-

great guide will try it soon as i order.. thing is at some site i browse it says to solder the anti-static point like Adam said.. sorry to ask this again just wanna make sure.. so we don’t have to solder or do anything with the anti-static point?

    Hello everyone
I have replaced my laser unit also. After installation the gear on the left side, that adjusts the laser height I think, grinds when you trip the sensor. I have the springs set as they were and I have compared mine with these photos. Any ideas on how to get this set right?

  • Comment by rob

hi there i just replaced my blue ray lens but upon reassembly i noticed that the left loading arm wasnt lifting the lens properly so i attempted to take it off then realign it, but when i removed it i heard a small pop and then a spring about 2″ long flew out and now i have no idea whaere it came from inside the drive, can anyone help me???

  • Comment by indianjew

rob, if you take out the silver screw in the middle of the loading arm assembley you can see in there real well. If you cant find where it went, just leave the loading arms out. With the system off, put your disk on the wheel, put the white magnet on top and if the lazer height is close enough it will work.

    It will just look ghetto

  • Comment by Chuckrfish

Hi guys, just a quick question, since I can’t tell from the pictures and don’t want to ruin my drive, how do you remove/ release the cable that is connected to the eye/laser assembly? it doesn’t seem to be the typical flip type connector. It is also a launch 60G if that makes any difference.
    Thanks!

  • Comment by indianjew

The ribbon cable just pulls out. Dont be scared your not going to break it.

  • Comment by Nathan isnt happy

Well this just happened to me the other day while playing metal gear solid 4.
the disc read icon came up during the game and stalled. I thought nothing of it and turned off the system and went to sleep. Afternoon arrives and i turn on my ps3.
nothing happens. WTF! after reading all of the above i know my Ps3 laser is fudged.
Problem is. I live in Australia, my ps3 is HK 80gig model. Sony Australia wont do anything. even though its a lens problem, BS i say. Having bought the ps1 3 times, the ps2 2 times and now ps3 failing, along with psp fail.
i now am getting really cheesed with Sony Australia. Not to mention all the game bands . And the crappy Australian PSN network with limited downloads compared to other countries. Currently looking for a ps3 lens so i can fix this Phone Book weight myself. instead of paying some bogan 190bucks to fix it.

  • Comment by indianjew

the part is avalible on ebay for around $55 US.. There are also PS2 and PSP lazers and other parts if you still have them.

There is a great video on youtube that features a PS3 being taken apart and put back togeather.

  • Comment by admin

    Guys .
KEM 400 AAA ( ps3 lens with shelf and motor or mechanism is out of stock FROM THE FACTORY.

we guess that Sony makes every 6-7th ps3s with a faulty lens.

anyhows kes 400aaa ps3 lens are instock.

and thinking that its easier to replace the whole unit rather then only the lns is wrong!

replacing only the lens is an easier task.

btw – new lens models are coming soon for the new ps3 lens models apparently the are F*#ked too.

Please! Can anyone help me!!! Does the KEM-400AAA for the PS3 have an anti static point that needs to be soldied?? Everyone says something different!!

No it doesn´t hav a solderpoint and it isn´t that hard to replace, just replace the laser and not the motor so do not waste your money on the whole package just buy the lens.

  • Comment by Lungberg

    Hi,

Help please. my PS3 just got 80010514 error also when I play MGS4.
Now the problem is it can read only DVD and CD but not BluRay or sometimes it can read BluRay but just like 5 mins. then it stop reading disc.

    Now the questions,

Is it 100% confirmed that the problem caused by the Blu Ray drive? Not because bad HDD (I came up with this idea because Blu Ray game and movie normally accessing the HDD)?

So, what’s the difference between KES and KEM?
    AAA and ACA?
Which one is better? Is it compatible each other?

Is there any calibration needed like those good old PS and PS2 drive?

Will there any problem if I ordered my new lens overseas such as your shop?
Is it safe during shipment with all of those vibration?

    Thanks!

Will replacing the laser fix a 60gb PS3 who can load up into the screen but does not recognize any disks? IT DOESN’T show the loading icon in the top right corner, however.

  • Comment by KJ

    I have a 1st generation Ps3 that reads cd”s & dvds & ps2 games but no Blue Ray or ps3 games.Does
replacing the laser usually fix this or is this a corrupted drive?

    Thanks, KJ E-mail kenneththomasjones@yahoo.com

  • Comment by indianjew

    KJ its your lazer

John, if it started with just not reading blue-rays its the lazer. Otherwise its tough to say, I have never seen it but it could be the motor or something elts. If it happened suddenly one day, I would start by restoring default settings, then format utility. Thats about all you can try without opening it. Does it play downloaded games?

Replaced my PS3 Lens with Mechanism KEM-400AAA on my 1st gen 80gb ps3.. Stil get reading circle on screen, but no disk icon. When turning unit on motor moves, but no light; disk spins. Will not read any disk or sd mem cards. Downloaded games and network work fine. Help…PLEASE. Want to get get Civilization V sooooo bad.

Hi guys, this is my video about how to diagnose a PS3 that does not spin/read discs. Hopefully it can aid you in diagnosing your particular problem.

For me, I found that there was no problem with the deck (KEM-400AAA) in my 40GB unit.

I believe its the laser (KES-400A) because the PS3 spins up a disc after the laser’s diode emits a light and has that light return to it by reflection off the disc. But if there is no light emitted, it will not spin.

I’m going to buy a replacement KES-400A, but this still may not fix the problem. I dont know how this PS3 got this way, i bought it off eBay. Another possibility is the IC controller board, which is located underneath the Blu-ray drive and is far more difficult to replace because it stores firmware.

  • Comment by Jayy

My drive makes a grinding sound while ejecting sometimes. I would say it takes me pushing the eject button 4 or 5 times before the disc comes out on average. Other than that it works good. What could be the reason for this problem?

  • Comment by Surfaced

    @ jayy,

Open your blu-ray drive and look at the grey and white loaders show in the 8th picture. I’d remove this little assembly by taking out the single silver screw and inspect the assembly for errors. Check that springs are properly set up and that the whole thing works together, not against itself.

  • Comment by Surfaced

Hi guys, I said I would update you on how replacing the laser (KES-400A) would work for me. It fixed my 40GB’s problem. It now reads all discs I give it. I recommend trying this if you guys haven’t already.

  • Comment by scott

Did this fix anyone who has experiencened the 2.42 firmware problem? If so please let me know and i will follow suit.. thanks!!!

2.42 ruined my life! heh in other news, how do you tell what type of bluray laser your ps3 needs?

  • Comment by pilotsim

ah i know now, they are kes400AAA lasers till the new one comes out. How do you know if you need the shelf or just the laser?

  • Comment by jjslowikowski

quick question: (Surfaced, maybe you could answer for me) I\’m definitely looking into buying a replacement diode. On http://psxboy.com/catalog_67.html , the options are a 3-prong or a 4-prong laser diode (PS3 KES-410A Laser Diode). Firstly, is this the correct diode to get? If so, which one should I get (3 or 4-prong)? How do I check my system without opening it first to see what is the one that will fit for me. I have the 40gb version (FccID = ak8cbeh1000). Any help from anyone would be appreciated.

  • Comment by mgaritaa

Hi, hope this respond some questions.
A month ago my 40GB PS3 (purchased Nov/2007) throw the error code 80010514 while playing COD4 ONLINE. The game freezes and later no BD can be read, only DVDs and CDs. Then was PANIC !!!
Then I research some in the internet and read in a site that this error is equal to the death of the laser.
The short story is, buy a laser replacement KES-400A (w/o frame) and replaced this by myself, yes, it is not that complicated. This laser is so cheap (USD$ 55), and today my PS3 is young again, then I’m happy, so happy.
Since I’m a Sony customer, I’m dissapointed with this faulty laser. Because I live in Costa Rica, and can’t send my console for service. So, I’m angry, I mean, this thing is so expensive and the laser is a sh!t, poor quality, bad QA process, I don’t know.
But there are something good from this, the new 40GB PS3 comes with new laser (two lens), maybe this fixes the massive laser deaths.

  • Comment by Jess

I have replace the deck on my PS3- 60gb. Now the laser lights :) . When I assemble the drive again. the drives does not take in the media. it gives a hizzing sound, I think its the motor working. I opened up the drive to better have a look and I noticed the big plastic rail on the left that has stuts did not interact with the gears in front of it. When I help it by applying very little pressure the rail joined with the gear. its like the spring keeps it away from the gear. I have tried to push the rail into 1 click into the gear – that results in some grinding sound. I can see from the metal lever that connects the two rails that the left rail gets its action from the right rail when I push in a media? But it seems that the syncronisation is off some how? Does anyone have a solution to this problem. I think a lot of folks who assemble the drive has this problems. I have also tried to insert a disc like PSTAR suggest in the forum. Help is greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I have a windows vista dell laptop. it flipped out so i did a system wipe and made a backup file with all my pictures, music, and documents. It said it was saved to drive “C”. but now i can’t find it. it says all the drives are empty. I know the items will remain on my hardrive, but how do i restore them? are they lost forever?

I’ve replaced the laser in my ps3 twice, and both times it runs for a little bit and then stops reading just like before. Is this just bad luck or is there something that may be shorting the lasers out?

  • Comment by Jay

I replaced mine. Got the part from http://parts.consolerepairguy.com

The KES-400A (laser only) was $78.95 Canadian. They ship to Canada and USA.

  • Comment by Adam

    Hi,

My playstation was taking longer to read blu rays, then it stalled and stopped reading them for a while,

Now i have noticed that blu ray films usually work and if i let them play a while they work perfectly.

If i then try a game after playing a bit of a blu ray it is more likely to work.

after the ps3 menu reconisis the disc they work perfectly which make me think its not the laser/lens.

Sony have quoted £101 to repair the console which i think is too much.

    what should i do?

  • Comment by Shane

My ps3 recently stopped working. It plays dvd’s just fine from start to finish. However, it won’t play blue rays and freezes on games…anybody have any idea what my problem might be and/or how I can fix it? Thanks!

Are all bluray lens look the same in different GB systems? (like is it the same in a 40GB and a 120GB?)

  • Comment by RIZ77

I have a 60gb ps3 while playing cod mw2 it froze at the end of an online match, since then it has been freezing at the end of every match and after a little while on all other games this f***ing sucks man…. i mainly play cod mw2 and from reading shit loads of blogs online i have gathered that cod mw2 updates actually force the lens and cpu to work over time basically by over clocking it all slighty for the game to run smoothly hense all the disk reading noise which is quite alot noisier than any other game i have played!! which actually sucks even more to think that i wil replace my lens soon and only play cod mw2 so the chances of the lens going again are not slim but quite high actually, which then puts me in a situation where i dont know whether to fix it or just move onto the xbox 360as much as i would not like to do that i am being forced to since the problem is with cod mw2 and maybe loads more future titles to come. it uses the lens so harshly.

i dont know whaat to say unless someone can assure me that after replacing it once thee are slim chances of it dying on me again!!!

I think it is the kem 410 aca but I keep getting confused on which one I should order. Anyone know a sure fire way like the serial number or anything. I don’t wanna open the thing until i get the laser in.

  • Comment by Fearman

    Hi,

My PS3 won’t play Blu ray DVDs but will play PS3 games and regular DVDs. Is that an indication of a lens going bad…?

    Please help,
    Thanks

  • Comment by 'Blu' Ray Adams

@fearman = yes it could mean the lens is going bad. Just make sure you have the latest firmware for the ps3 before doing anything drastic.

  • Comment by Yamaha_ERG121

My playstation had a broken drive as well, no dvd’s cd’s or games where played.

Now i’ve installed a new drive and got some problems with the drive mechanism, but the Ps3 doesn’t seem to regonise any of the disc i insert into the drive… ?

  • Comment by Online Forum

Excellent pictures, took a while to load but they are high quality; just what we need. A great guide, thanks so much. Probably saved me 3 months waiting for Sony :)

  • Comment by Dangurxtreme

My Ps3 works, but locks up now and then during loads. I bought a new laser and put it in, and it would not even spin the disk. Took it out tried again, nothing. Put the old one back in and it ran like normal. Sent it back for a replacement. New one came today…same problem. Won’t even recognize. What could be the problem? Did they really send me two bad ones in a row? I put the old one back in again and it is fine (other then the freezing up). The model on mine and the one ordered match, so I am lost.

  • Comment by Elijah

I followed the steps and change my 40gig PS3 lens(ps3 didn’t read any kind of discs). First it didnt detect and reject the disc when I changed the lens, then now the senser in the disc slot is working(the PS3 turns on when I put the disc 1/3 way into the slot), but my problem is that it does not take the disc into the drive. I wonder what problem will it be. The blue light was flashing at the time I put the disc in but it just won’t take the disc in automatically. Could this be a motor problem? If yes, how can I test to see if its the disc spinner motor, the lens motor or the gear motor that causing the error. Thanks!

SOMEONE HAD MENTIONED GEARS WHEN REASSEMBLING:

  • Comment by jr

Can someone explain the gears when reassembling? I replaced the MECH and I am having the same issue some have had (takes the game, makes a grinding noise, then doesn’t eject unless I lift the door when the console is trying to push the game out.

  • Comment by Matt

My PS3 plays Blu ray DVDs, regular DVDs but it won’t play PS3 games. Is the lens bad.

  • Comment by jr

So I figured it out…. it did help to tilt the back end up when reassembling the black plastic cover. prior to that I was getting a grinding noise when the game was inserted.

  • Comment by Andy Benjamin

I too have the grinding noise when I insert a disk after I tgook aprart my KES 410. There does not seem to be any videos or advise how to re assemble this chassis (the black top with the white gears) I am so frustrated. I bought a crappy repair manual on line, $40, A new laser $60 now it does not work. I hate sony

  • Comment by Matt

Ok, So i think this is what I need to do.

I get a weird error message when trying to play Blu-Ray discs. It works for a very short time then craps out. Especially if I pause, or go to the main menu.

regular DVDs play with no problem.

  • Comment by tomass

Hey, if you have a grinfing noise after replacing the lens, the drive was not put back together correctly. I have worked on a lot of these drives and they are tricky at first. I can probably help you fix this if you email me at tommickle@comcast.net

  • Comment by tomass

If you have spings out and missing gears I can also help you out. email me at tommickle@comcast.net

  • Comment by Mick

I have owned a ps3 for a couple of years now and after about 13 months it stopped reading games so i pulled it apart. I then discovered it was one of the new laser units (kes-410aca) inside. 1st thing I did was wipe the 2 lenses that are closest to the disc with lens cleaner and a couple of cotton buds. This fixed my problem for 2 months before it happened again at which stage i cleaned in same manner as before. After 6-7 months of this it stopped reading dvd’s or games so I removed unit kes410-aca and stripped it down. I found inside there were a multitude of prisms and lenses so I cleaned what i could and put it back together and my ps3 lived once again. Many cleanings later and my ps3 lens no longer works.

I’m currently in the process of getting a new kem-410aca (laser & deck) hoping this time I’ll get another 12+ months from it before any probs.

Mind The dust gremlins is my advice (just cos it don’t read discs don’t mean the lens is dead). If you intend on replacing the lens yourself as your console is out of warranty I recommend you first clean the lens just incase it’s dust.

  • Comment by Kev

Hi. If you hold the eject button on your PS3 for several seconds you hear it reset itself. This might solve the issues with trying to eject your discs. I think it is the PS3’s way of automatically calibrating the heads.

  • Comment by Drugstore Pharmacy Canada

Very useful guide, I also had a problem with the PS3 BluRay

  • Comment by Trevor

I’ve got an old 40GB PS3 (CECHG03). A few months ago, the blu-ray stopped reading games and a few weeks later wouldn’t read any disc. I opened it and cleaned the lens and I restored the disk (item 3 on the system menu) but neither of these worked. I then ordered a KEM-400AAA shelf(?) with the KES-400A laser to replace my existing one. I got it in the mail today. I replaced the KEM-400AAA and reassembled carefully and powered up. I fed in my GTA4 disc and it worked… for about 10 minutes. The system froze and I had to cycle the power. After that I was back to square one. I’ve disassembled to make sure everything is well connected, I’ve vacuumed out the case, I restored the disk again and I cleaned the lens. Nothing. When I put the disc in, it doesn’t spin. Does anyone have any ideas? Do I have another bad laser?

  • Comment by Problems

I was able to reset the drive and eject function by hooking the drive back up to the ps3 without putting the screws in the drive. Once I powered up the system I removed the top part of the cd drive and everything reset to accept a disc. Put the top back on and insert a disc, then put the screws back in and it is ready to work. Hope it works for anyone else having the same problems.
